Week 5
This week’s assignment was a lot of fun. We had to go to a real chemical photo-booth. There are not much of these around anymore, but in San Francisco there are still a few places where you can find them. Places such as Museé Mechanique or the Rayko Photo Center are good choices if you are looking for a real Photo-booth experience.
I decided to go to the Museé Mechanique firstly because i had never been there and also because they had two different booths so I wanted to try both of them. This is what I came out with:
Truth be told, I had been sick the previous week and also I was at my PMS-ing week, which really did not help me feel comfortable taking photos of myself, and in addition all the game and people noise presented at the Museé Mechanique gave me a horrible headache, but I knew i had to do the project, so decided to play on that idea and take photos where I was serious, annoyed, and after a while I thought it was actually fun so I ended up smilling. This only came to prove the point that I was extremely moody and I could one second be happy and the other pretty annoyed. Because we had to manipulate these images somehow, I decided to play on the idea of mixed messages and mixed feelings. The first Idea I had was to copy the photos on a Xerox copier and enlarge them by 400%. I picked out the photos where I seemed really angry and contrasted them with bright and happy colors to mimic my present state of mind. The second version was to create a 3D piece where B&W versions of these shots were combined to create an overlay of different expressions again conveying the mismatched feeling I was having. I also created a third version where I have a enlarged photo-booth xerox copy, and three smaller versions connecting different points of each facial expression through lines. This came about because of my graphic influence, and also because I wanted to trace what happened to the lines as my facial expressions changed, almost like an info graphic approach o recording my own mood swings. Below are my the different versions I came up with:
